Opening Preview 14 September 6pm – 9pm
15 September– 20 October 2018 (11am-5pm, Tuesday — Saturday)
Transmission Gallery, 18 King St, Glasgow G1 5QP
Transmission Gallery hosts COCO!NUTS! — a breakthrough solo exhibition by Scottish artist Rabiya Choudhry opening this September. The Scottish Solo Exhibition is a cornerstone of Transmission’s yearly programme and COCO!NUTS! marks the first solo exhibition by Choudhry in Scotland, in her hometown of Glasgow. The exhibition will feature a selection of Choudhry’s trademark paintings, as well as experimentations by the artist into new forms of text-based media; textiles; and painted sculptures.
COCO!NUTS! will explore themes of faith; race; identity; and politics in vibrant portrayals of the different autobiographical factors present in the artists' own life. Choudhry's work specifically references her personal experience of South Asian diaspora and cultural displacement, coupled with dark comedic Scottish humour.
Artist’s Talk Saturday 29 September 2pm, free to attend.
