Wednesday evening Gītā course
The Bhagavad Gītā: Diving in to Practical Yoga Philosophy
Wednesdays: 6:30-9:00pm March 27th, April 3rd and April 10th
This is a very special opportunity to study the practical wisdom of the Bhagavad Gītā traditional style, direct from the Sanskrit text, which we also begin to recite.
The Gītā is the most treasured text of the whole Indian tradition. It is celebrated for the way it brings together, into a cohesive whole, the practical wisdom of the Upaniṣads — the section of the traditional Indian Vedic literature most concerned with yoga.
The Gītā is set on a battlefield, in the thick of life, in the middle of the whirling wonder of existence. How can I live in balance and harmony? How can I deal with the inevitable suffering of life? How can I live with purpose and meaning so I can sleep in peace at the end of every day? The Gītā goes straight to the heart of these perennial human questions and gives us clear, no-nonsense guidance on how to live in a space of nourishing dynamic equilibrium.
In this 7.5 hour course, we will begin with the first half of Chapter 2, the essence of the Gītā, the cream of the cream. This will include:
• The nature of life, the universe and existence;
• How to work skillfully with the laws of nature and the inevitable suffering of life;
• How to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth and enjoyment;
• How to cultivate deepening authority, freedom and fulfillment in life.
With good reason, the Gītā is regarded as the greatest spiritual text ever set down. Come and find out why, and empower your ongoing practice and exploration of yoga by rooting it in the time-tested wisdom of the Bhagavad Gītā.
